Associations Test
I’ve just finished refining the QualityAspect.com and Lucid Quality web site design. The primary change was the design of the banner at the top of the page.
As I always do, I’ve asked some of my friends for feedback on the new design. I almost never receive a simple one word feedback. the comments are usually very detailed, and they make me aware of things I didn’t think of. In that respect, this time was no different.
However, this time I found the feedback to be extremely interesting and thought provoking. It seems that some people had a really strong emotional reaction to the images I’ve used. I always try to create some sort of emotional reaction using the design, but I wasn’t prepared for the reaction I got.
I think the reason I was surprised is that the images I’ve used are abstract. I did try to send a message, but it didn’t cross my mind that such abstract images can provoke such a strong emotional reaction. Now, I am not pretending to be a psychologist, but it may be a nice exercise to try and understand the origins of the associations that caused that strong reaction.
I will be happy to know how you react to these images.
Post a comment with what ever comes into your mind when you see the images used in the banners below. Try to think where did these associations come from and what’s behind them.
