Ok to All
Every once in a while I come across a warning/error message, which leaves any reasonable user staring at his monitor not knowing what he has to do. Here’s the latest example, taken straight out of Microsoft’s® Visual Source Safe®.
Here are some facts that you have to know about the context of this warning: the person used the application when the waraning appeared is an administrator; the message appeared immediately after opening the application.
Now, for the million dollar question: what would you do: press OK or OK to All? I guess a cry for Help is more likely.
If you have any innovative ideas regarding this message box, feel free to comment…
In the meanwhile, if you are responsible for a product that has to interact with a human being, make sure you write clear warning and error messages, and that you supply all the information needed in order to make the right decision. Your customers will be grateful.
